A filmography that you can be completely proud of – that’s what Quentin Tarantino wants. In his opinion, too many great directors only made extremely mediocre films towards the end of their careers, and Tarantino wants to avoid this fate. So he set himself a goal: make 10 films and then end his career as a director.

Tarantino’s 9th work, “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood”, was released in 2019. After all, Tarantino describes the two “Kill Bill” parts as a single film, but now the big finale has almost been reached. However, Tarantino is having a hard time finding a worthy project for his farewell to the big screen and is rejecting a script he wrote himself for the second time.

Tarantino’s swan song is a long time coming

After Tarantino had already written a “Star Trek” film, which he no longer wanted to make himself, he concentrated on a new project: “The Movie Critic”. The film about the film critic of a porn magazine, whose texts Tarantino had always enjoyed reading in his youth, was supposed to bring the director and Brad Pitt together for the third time.

But according to Deadline, “The Movie Critic” isn’t coming after all. Reason: Tarantino simply changed his mind. There will probably only be a more concrete explanation one day, when Tarantino himself explains his decision and presents his next, final script. Tarantino may simply turn “The Movie Critic” into a novel, as he did with “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood.”

What should not be forgotten, however, is that “The Hateful Eight” was also once rejected by Tarantino after an early version of the script was leaked to the public. The positive reaction to a public reading of the script ultimately changed his mind – so perhaps the fate of “The Movie Critic” isn’t set in stone after all.
