Completely flooded – burst water pipe in Vienna’s Hofburg

The courtyard in the Vienna Hofburg is currently completely under water. According to the castle authorities, it was a burst water pipe. The photos taken by an attentive “Krone” reader reporter show the massive water damage.

Due to the enormous amount of water, the surface of the ground in the inner courtyard bulged upwards and flooding occurred. The water has now been turned off again by Vienna Water at the main water pipe. No injuries No people were injured in the incident. The cause of the damage is currently unclear. However, damage caused by construction work can be ruled out. The water masses reached as far as the Swiss wing and the inner Michaelertor. How much water actually leaked is still being determined.
