Conceivable logistics warehouse: is Musk planning a new project in Germany?

Is Musk planning a new project in Germany?

Tesla boss Elon Musk seems to have taken a liking to Germany. A car and battery factory are to be built near Berlin, and another project by the car manufacturer could soon follow.

Tesla boss Elon Musk does not rule out the construction of a logistics warehouse in Germany. When asked by a Twitter user whether there could be such a warehouse for Europe in Germany, Musk replied: “Maybe”. The world’s largest electric car manufacturer is currently building its first plant in Europe in Grünheide near Berlin.

Originally, Tesla wanted to start production this summer. Musk recently refrained from doing this and said in an interview with Reuters TV during a visit to the construction site in May: “It currently looks like we can start manufacturing at the end of the year.”

The US company also wants to build a battery factory in Brandenburg and has therefore expanded and submitted the application for approval for the construction of the car factory, as the responsible state office for the environment announced on Thursday. In the next few days it will be decided whether the public should be involved again.

The battery factory is to be built on the Tesla site in Grünheide in close proximity to the car factory. Tesla is also planning to expand the press shop with two more press lines. According to the application, the body shop will be reduced to a production line. Production steps for the manufacture and painting of plastic components such as bumper and rear-view mirror covers are also new.

Tesla plans to build around 500,000 of the compact Model 3 and Model Y vehicle series in Grünheide every year. For the construction of the car factory, the final environmental approval via the Federal Immission Control Act has not yet been obtained. Tesla is therefore building with early approvals. The time for the final decision is unclear.
