Like the first part and all the films in the Conjuring Cinematic Universe, The Nun 2 by Michael Chaves is prohibited in our cinemas for children under 12 years old.
Second opus of the Conjuring spin-off dedicated to the demon Valak who took the form of a terrifying Nun, the feature film takes place in 1956 in the South of France. Sister Irène, still played by Taïssa Farmiga, now works at the Sainte-Lucie boarding school in Provence. Very quickly, she understands that Valak followed her.
For the director, The Nun is now one of the cult monsters of popular culture. She has become a true icon of horror cinema.
Michael Chaves explains in the press kit: “I believe that the demonic nun is one of the legendary monsters of horror cinema. As soon as we see it on a poster, it reminds us a little of Dracula. There is also a bit of Pennywise in her home, and of Nosferatu. It is timeless. He is one of the absolute icons of horror cinema and the most formidable antagonists of the seventh art.”

The filmmaker, already at work on The Curse of the White Lady and Conjuring: The Devil’s Grasp, then explains his approach for this sequel and why this character is so terrifying.
“In this new episode, I wanted to go even further. I wanted to explore the different manifestations of the monster. And I wanted to dig even deeper into the story, or at least the myth and the theories circulating about its potential origins. It was important to move in this direction without being too specific. Because the strength of the character also comes from the fact that we don’t know exactly where he comes from and that he retains a certain mystery. That’s what makes it downright terrifying.“.

For producer Peter Safran, who recently announced the launch of a series linked to the Conjuring saga, if Valak is so scary it is because he takes on the features of a nun, supposed to be a sacred character. .
He declares “First of all, almost everyone is afraid of nuns. But if we associate this terror with the astonishing face of the Demonic Nun and the origins of Valak, we obtain a result which resonates very strongly with fans of horror cinema. The idea of a profoundly evil force taking on a most sacred guise – a nun – is irresistible.”
