The Mountain View firm recently updated one of the most famous applications of its connected watch and was inspired by what its most direct competitor is doing on the market.

Are Google designers lacking creativity? This is the question that we can ask ourselves, when we look at the brand new version of this application for Wear OS, the system dedicated to connected watches, and which equips in particular the Samsung Galaxy Watch or the Google Pixel Watch.

A proper copy and paste, but which does not fit all watches

In recent hours, Google has pushed an update to the Google Play Store, its software store. Wear OS allows you to discover and download software directly from the screen of your connected watch, without having to use your smartphone. The new product sheets have clearer elements and larger buttons, which make navigation through the different categories easier.

As some quickly noticed, the search engine teams did not look far to develop this new interface. To do this, they simply took a look at the Apple Watch App Store, of which Series 9 has just been revealed, and copied the layout of the different elements.

We can see in these two screenshots the similarities between the two stores. The buttons for downloading software are located in the same place, to the right of the app logo. The information, such as the required age or user reviews, is also strictly identical.

Better yet: Google has taken the frames with rounded borders from the App Store sheets. If this presentation adapts well to square format watches, this is less the case on a round Pixel Watch, where the frames are cut at the top and bottom of the screen.

The Google Play Store update for Wear OS is rolling out, and you should be able to access this new interface in the coming days, if you haven’t already.
