Consultations in Upper Austria – It’s getting serious: Extension of the FFP2 mask requirement?

Sharply increasing numbers of cases, nationwide vaccination rear end, rapid growth in Covid 19 patients in hospitals: After waiting for weeks, those responsible in Upper Austria now see a need for action. The FFP2 mask is about to make a comeback in public areas.

On Monday at 6.30 p.m., the country’s decision-makers met for an emergency meeting. Governor Thomas Stelzer and his representative Christine Haberlander (both ÖVP) consulted with the crisis team and top physicians around the board of the Clinic for Pulmonary Medicine at the Kepler University Hospital, Bernd Lamprecht, on how to proceed now.

The fact that the number of cases is increasing and more and more Covid 19 patients are occupying the beds in the domestic hospitals has been observed in the country for weeks without comment. But now the time for more stringent measures should have come. After hours of deliberations, there should be an official statement on Tuesday. According to reports, the FFP2 mask requirement is likely to be expanded by the food trade to other public areas.
