“Consumer Reports” – Mercedes at the bottom in the reliability ranking

The consumer magazine “Consumer Reports” is considered the proverbial gold standard in the USA when it comes to quality and reliability of cars; his word counts in many purchase decisions. The results of the annual quality survey have now been published. The results surprise.

Sunshine reigns supreme in Japan and Upper Bavaria: Toyota, a brand whose quality standards are proverbial, took first place. Directly behind in second place is the classy daughter Lexus. Third place is quite surprising and worthy of all honor: BMW, a German premium brand, has established itself well ahead here. Mazda is in fourth place, followed by Honda and Audi. Brands from all segments are found in the middle. What consumers are interested in, however, are the rearmost places, because here the driving pleasure is often spoiled by problems and unplanned visits to the workshop. Sixth from the bottom is Tesla. Behind them are the traditionally problematic General Motors brands Chevrolet and GMC, surprisingly also VW with models here mostly from North American production. The penultimate is the US brand Jeep. The red lantern, however, goes to Germany. According to the experience of US customers, none other than Mercedes-Benz, inventor of the automobile, currently builds the most unreliable cars. This is apparently mainly due to the electronics, for example freezing and crashing screens. (Jens Meiners/cen)
