In February 2024, household consumption expenditure on goods in France reached 45.6 billion euros, stable compared to the previous month, according to figures from the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (Insee ) published at 8:45 a.m. Over one year, consumption therefore decreased by 0.8% (46.0 billion euros in February 2023).
The previous month, in January 2024, households had spent 45.6 billion euros (a figure which has just been revised by INSEE) on their purchases of goods, i.e. 0.6% less over one month and 1 .2% less over one year.
What you need to know about this indicator: Household consumption expenditure on goods is estimated every month by INSEE. The data is adjusted for seasonal variations and working days (cvs-cjo). Consumer spending on goods represents around half of total household consumption spending, which also includes services. They include: food (including drinks and tobacco), energy (water, gas, electricity, etc. but also sanitation and waste management), manufactured goods (electronic products, furniture , vehicles, clothing, etc.).
This indicator aims to provide economic information on household consumption, explains INSEE. It focuses only on the consumption of goods, on the one hand because information is available more quickly and also because the consumption of goods is more volatile than that of services. Household consumption expenditure on services is published quarterly with the national accounts.
