Works such as “The Road” and “No Country for Old Men” made him famous: The bestselling author Cormac McCarthy has now died.
Cormac McCarthy, one of the most important American writers of the last few decades, died in Santa Fe, New Mexico on Tuesday. This is reported, among other things, by the “New York Times”. The bestselling author and Pulitzer Prize winner was 89 years old. According to US media reports, he died “a natural death”.
His works have been acclaimed by both the general public and critics. He is best known for his novel All the Pretty Horses in the early 1990s, for which he won the National Book Award.
Film adaptation wins four Oscars
In 2006 McCarthy’s novel “The Road” was published, which was awarded the Pulitzer Prize and was internationally successful. In the film “The Road” (2009) Viggo Mortensen (64) and Kodi Smit-McPhee (27) took on the leading roles.
McCarthy’s work “No Country for Old Men” (2005, “No Country for Old Men”) was filmed in 2007 by Ethan (65) and Joel Coen (68) and received over 75 film awards worldwide, including four Oscars. Cormac McCarthy’s “Blood Meridian” is also considered one of the most important novels of the 20th century.
