A corona outbreak was reported in a psychiatric clinic near Hanover. With 74 infected people, psychiatry is the region's corona hotspot.

The third wave of the corona pandemic is slowly but surely making itself felt across Germany. This week, more corona outbreaks were reported in facilities, including daycare centers and schools. Another corona hotspot has now developed near Hanover.

A total of 74 people tested positive for the corona virus in the Wahrendorff psychiatric clinic in Köthenwald. Initially, 19 infected people were initially reported, then the number of cases skyrocketed. There are 56 residents and 18 employees among the corona cases.

As the Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung reports, the majority of those infected are said to have been symptom-free so far. According to managing director Heide Grimmelmann-Heimburg, no one is critically ill. The affected area of ​​the clinic is now said to have been isolated.

With the high number of infected people, the Wahrendorff Clinic is developing into a corona hotspot. The outbreak is causing the region's incidence to continue to rise, in Hanover it is currently 130.

Third wave: Corona numbers continue to rise

Across Germany, the Robert Koch Institute reported 17,500 new infections with the corona virus within 24 hours on Friday. That is around 3,000 cases more than a week ago. In the meantime, the British mutation of the coronavirus is said to make up 72 percent and is slowly displacing the original version. The mutant of the virus is said to be significantly more contagious. The incidence in Germany has also increased by 20 points in the last seven days to currently 90. Since the low of infections in mid-February, the number of corona cases has been rising steadily again. In several federal states, the opening plan of the federal-state decision must be stopped and the emergency brake pulled.
