Corona current: summer vacation is probably canceled

The corona virus continues to make life difficult for us. Visits and excursions at Easter are not permitted, holidays are neither desired nor possible for the foreseeable future. Easter vacation is canceled.

Of course, many are now hoping for a summer vacation and in the current isolation dream of lying somewhere on the beach in the summer months. After all, such positive thoughts help us all deal with the daily horror news about coronavirus. But will vacations be possible again in a few months? Unfortunately, experts do not yet have much hope.

"This summer will be different"

Dr. Klaus Reinhardt, the President of the German Medical Association, explains to the "Funke Medien" on the topic of summer holidays that even if Germany starts to gradually return to everyday life, the pandemic will keep the country busy until summer:

That's why I think this summer will be different. We will probably not get into the car, train or plane as usual and go on vacation.

Apart from the financial problems that many people now have, it is also unlikely that summer will be possible again in traditional holiday countries such as Italy or Spain. "But I very much hope that we will be able to do this in part during the autumn holidays and especially in the coming year," said Reinhardt.

The thought of summer vacation is not an issue for politicians either. When asked about this, Ralph Brinkhaus, chairman of the CDU parliamentary group, told "n-tv": "I think it is too early to say what will happen in the summer. The next few days and weeks will be decisive for how the situation develops. We should wait for that and then make the decision ".

Armin Laschet (CDU), head of the government of North Rhine-Westphalia, also warns "Bild" of hasty hotel and flight bookings for the summer: "Larger trips abroad cannot currently be planned on a secure basis".

Penalties are high for violations

According to the cabinet decision, anyone who is currently coming back to Germany after spending several days abroad should go to quarantine at home for 14 days. The Federal Ministry of the Interior wants to impose hefty fines for violations, between 50 and 25,000 euros, reports "n-tv". For example, anyone who receives visitors despite isolation should pay between 150 and 10,000 euros.
