We are all eagerly awaiting the end of the pandemic. But as hard as it is, it won't come that quickly. And thus no carefree travel.

Finally going on vacation again – that's what we're all dreaming of right now. Unfortunately, this dream is still a long way off. The Federal Government's Tourism Commissioner, Thomas Bareiß, is now destroying the hope of a holiday at Easter. He doesn't think we'll be able to travel carefree again until then. "I think that traveling is something that the next two or three months will be very difficult to imagine," he told RTL / ntv

Holidays only possible from Pentecost?

So it looks like we have to look for Easter eggs at home this year too. But when is improvement in sight? Bareiß is assuming the second quarter of the year: "It will be better again after the Whitsun holidays. And I hope that summer will be a very long travel period."

Can we then fly abroad again?

Bareiß assumes that the vaccination will make traveling safer again and that you may not only be able to fly within Germany, but also to distant countries.

Tightening of the entry regulations planned

What is going to get tightened are the travel regulations. The federal government is currently working on a step-by-step plan for those returning to travel, which could be adopted on Wednesday (13.1.2020). Anyone who comes from a country with more than 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days should therefore have to go into quarantine. Those who come from areas with more than 200 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days will also need a test.

For people who want to enter from a country with a rampant mutated virus form, particularly strict measures should be taken: "We really have to be careful here. If the mutated viruses spread more and more in Germany, there is a fast chain of infection. That would put an enormous strain on our health system ", so Bareiß.

After all, it is reassuring that the vaccine is also supposed to work against the mutated forms of the coronavirus – so let's hope for the best!
