How long are you protected after a corona vaccination? Scientists have been asking themselves this question for months. If there was initially talk of an immunity period of six months, now there are increasing indications that the times should be adjusted upwards.
According to the latest study data from Great Britain, immunity should normally last at least eight months after a corona infection. That comes from a reportBritish government scientists published on Friday.
Differences between age groups
Antibodies were found in “almost all of the people examined” eight months after a corona infection, the experts said. The last major study only found evidence of protection over six months.
However, according to the scientists, there are differences between the various age groups. In this way, younger people would have a greater chance of actually no longer becoming infected during this period.
Adaptation also conceivable in Switzerland
The new study data support other scientific investigations. At the beginning one assumed an immunity of six months, now the indications are growing that the body has antibodies for longer.
In Switzerland, too, an adjustment to the rules has been under consideration for a few weeks. BAG director Virginie Masserey said a few days ago at a media conference that it is currently investigating how long the Covid certificate should be valid for vaccinated and convalescent people. So far this has been in effect for six months, but an adjustment to nine or ten months is possible in future. (zis)
