Corona virus – vaccination damage: the long wait for recognition – knowledge

Contents

In very rare cases, people become seriously and permanently ill after a Covid-19 vaccination. Unlike in Germany, they are still waiting for compensation in Switzerland.

Around 260 people in Switzerland suffered such serious health problems as a result of the corona vaccination that they applied for compensation.

Since 2016 is according to the revised Epidemics Act the Confederation is responsible for examining these applications. It is largely unclear how far these examinations have progressed – even for the applicants themselves. At the request of Radio SRF, the BAG now writes: “In Switzerland, no statements can be made about the recognition rate. Almost 40 applications are still being processed.»

It can be assumed that compensation will be paid in some cases.

The Federal Department of Home Affairs examines each of these requests for compensation individually – and has not yet recognized a single one. But, as the BAG now writes at the request of Radio SRF: “It can be assumed that compensation will be paid in some cases.”

comparison with Germany

Recently lying the latest figures from Germany and they make you sit up and take notice: by the beginning of May around 9,000 people across the country had applied for recognition of Covid 19 vaccination damage. Around ten percent of these requests were accepted by the authorities.

This increases the pressure on the Swiss authorities. Because the two countries can be compared: Although a large number of different vaccines are approved in Germany, the most common vaccinations – just like in Switzerland – were the two mRNA vaccines from Moderna and Pfizer/Biontech. The age and health profile of the German and Swiss population is also quite comparable.

Silent Authorities

In another point, however, the two countries differ significantly: the German Minister of Health, Karl Lauterbach, took a clear position in favor of those affected by vaccination damage. He promised them help and set up a program to better investigate possible long-term damage from a Covid 19 vaccination.

The authorities in Switzerland, on the other hand, are conspicuous for their silence, which is difficult to bear, especially for those affected. Infectiologist Philip Tarr is observing as head of the now-completed Research project “vaccination-skeptical parents and doctors in Switzerland” attentive to how the authorities in Switzerland and Germany deal with the issue of vaccine damage.

I would definitely recommend the FOPH to recognize vaccination damage in clear situations.

He says: “I consider the recognition of vaccination damage in clear situations, as has apparently been done in Germany, to be a confidence-building measure that I would definitely recommend to the BAG.”

The clarification of any vaccination damage is part of the processing of the corona pandemic, according to the Epidemics Act. How well the authorities succeed in processing this could be decisive for the success of future vaccination campaigns. Because trust in the authorities and their vaccination recommendations would also be a decisive prerequisite in the next health crisis.
