A week before the coronation of King Charles III and his wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, as queen consort of the United Kingdom, bookings for London are experiencing a spectacular leap forward. The French could indeed come to attend the royal event in large numbers, but the price of plane tickets is already starting to soar.

It is an event with planetary influence that the United Kingdom is about to celebrate. Next Saturday will be the coronation of King Charles III and his wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, as Queen consort. In France, many curious people have already planned to cross the Channel to attend. Since the announcement of the date, they have been flocking to flight and hotel booking sites.

“Our site saw a very strong 265% increase in searches for flights to London during the event. Stays in hotels in the British capital increased almost fivefold compared to the same weekend of the previous year,” says Xavier Rousselou, spokesperson for the online travel agency Expedia.

170 euros on average for the return flight on May 6

A strong craze which is however not so surprising since the French have for a long time devoted a great admiration to the members of the royal family. “Every time there has been a milestone event within the British monarchy, we have seen peaks in bookings. And this was true immediately after the death of Queen Elizabeth, but also each time it there was a new season of the series The Crown which retraces the entire life of the royal family”, explains Xavier Rousselou.

But to afford this royal parenthesis, you will have to put your hand in your pocket. The return flight, for the day of the coronation, already reaches 170 euros on average. And prices are likely to soar even more as the event approaches.
