HONG KONG (Reuters) – China will stop testing chilled and frozen foods for the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 from January 8, according to an official notice known to Reuters.

The State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) will lift the requirement to consign food to centralized warehouses for testing and disinfection before marketing.

Chinese customs announced a similar measure on Wednesday for imported products.

“The ending of testing and disinfection requirements will definitely help the meat trade by reducing additional costs and speeding up the flow of goods,” said Huang Juhui, founder of Beijing Means Consulting Co.
