Corsair is sneakily launching the MP600 Pro LPX SSDs. This series features an ultra-flat heatsink so that it can be placed inside the Sony PlayStation 5 console. Guaranteed for five years, these SSDs are capable of debiting up to 7.1 GB/s.
Corsair is particularly active in the SSD market. The company was the first to offer mainstream PCIe 4.0 SSDs with an acclaimed MP600 series. Different versions followed with the MP600 Core, MP600 Pro and MP600 Pro XT. However, all of them had one thing in common: a fairly large heat sink. This metallic protrusion is interesting in the sense that it helps to maintain the temperature of the chips at a correct level, guaranteeing high data rates on all occasions. The other side of the coin concerns only a minority of users: very thick, this radiator prevents the use in a PlayStation 5 console.
It is obvious that Corsair did not want to miss this market. For this, the company has designed the MP600 Pro LPX series with a thinner heatsink so that it can be housed in Sony’s game console. Obviously, compatibility with computers remains in order. Available in four capacities (from 500 GB to 4 TB), these SSDs offer speeds of up to 7.1 GB/s in reading and 6.8 GB/s in writing.
On the component side, we find the Phison E18 controller and the 176-layer Micron 3D TLC memory already present on the brand’s MP600 Pro XT SSDs. Enough to effectively ensure first-class speeds as well as very high endurance – from 350 TB on the 500 GB version to 3,000 TB on the 4 TB version. The warranty is, for its part, fixed at five years.
The series is now available on the manufacturer’s website and in specialized stores at similar – and therefore high – prices to those of the MP600 Pro XT series: €115 for the 500 GB version, €190 (1 TB), €380 (2 TB) and €880 (4 TB). Prices generally lower than those charged by Seagate on its FireCuda 530, a series that is also compatible with the Sony PS5.
