But while a rain of good news has been falling on us for several weeks, now a less good one could somewhat taint this pretty picture.
Google Pixel 8: a major price increase to come?
In Europe, will Google Pixel prices increase significantly this year? This is the rumor that began to arise on the Web on this back-to-school day. According to a new report, the content of which is relayed to us by the site GSMArena, Google Pixel 8 prices could be $874 for the 128GB storage model and $949 for the 256GB variant. If you picked up a Pixel 7 last year, then you most certainly remember that the prices ranged from 650 euros to 750 euros. This same leak also suggests that the high-end models would also be hit with a price increase.
In 2022, the Pixel 7 Pro was, as a reminder, offered at a price of 900 euros in its 128 GB variant. This year, the Pixel 8 Pro would see its price start from (be careful, hold on tight)… 1,235 euros. We would then have to pay more than 1,300 euros for the iteration with 256 GB of storage and around 1,461 euros for the 512 GB model. If we could initially think that the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro were going to cost more than their predecessors , it must nevertheless be admitted that these price increases seem relatively disproportionate.
For several years, one of Google’s great strengths in the smartphone market has been to offer devices that are both efficient and accessible. It therefore seems unlikely that the American giant will change tack at this point and increase the price of its phones by 300 euros for its most expensive models.
