Coupe de France: Marseille dismisses Montpellier and goes to the quarters

Olympique de Marseille qualified for the quarter-finals of the Coupe de France by eliminating Montpellier (1-1, 5 pens to 4), Saturday January 29, at the Vélodrome stadium.

The Mediterranean duel in the evening at the Vélodrome between OM and Montpellier, respectively third and sixth in Ligue 1, turned to the advantage of the Marseillais after the penalties (1-1, 5 pens to 4).

Aligned during the two previous rounds, Steve Mandanda finally remained on the Olympian bench in favor of Pau Lopez. He therefore did not participate in this session during which the Spanish goalkeeper distinguished himself.

Jorge Sampaoli’s players opened the scoring through Arkadiusz Milik (74th), but the incoming Béni Makouana tied the two teams (80th). During the penalty shootout, Pau Lopez repelled Mihailo Ristic’s attempt and Dimitri Payet, the last Marseille shooter, qualified his team.
