A Canadian couple distributed candies containing THC to a dozen children aged 6 to 16 who came knocking on their door for Halloween.

This practice, particularly widespread in Anglo-Saxon countries, was the occasion of an incident in the residential suburb of Tuxedo in the city of Winnipeg in the province of Manitoba in Canada. Indeed, on Halloween night, several children came back with candies containing cannabis. Resembling Nerds brand candies, the treats featured a high dose of THCthe main active molecule of cannabis.
After investigation, police arrested two suspects, a 53-year-old woman and a 63-year-old man, reports Global News. According to the police, the children who received the cannabis candies were aged 6 to 16. For now, the victims number a dozen, but there could be more.

If for the moment, the investigation is moving towards the idea that the couple would not have “intentionally” targeted at children, the police continue to try to understand the circumstances of the incident. The man and woman each face 13 counts, including causing bodily harm by criminal negligence, administering a noxious substance with intent to endanger life or cause bodily harm, or for having distributed cannabis to a young adult. Moreover, although cannabis is authorized in Canada within a strict legal framework, the sweets in question seem to have been bought on the black market.
For example, recalls Global News, federal law prohibits the sale of products containing cannabis with an appearance likely to attract young people. The couple will therefore have to face “additional illicit cannabis charges”.
