Emmanuel Macron will hold a health defense council dedicated to Covid-19 on Monday, just before the Council of Ministers which must adopt the bill transforming the health pass into a vaccination pass, the Elysee announced to AFP on Friday. Omicron panics Europe

Government spokesman Gabriel Attal said Wednesday that a “reassessment of the health situation” was scheduled for that date, while the arrival of the Omicron variant is causing contamination figures to panic across Europe. The isolation and surveillance rules, particularly concerning contact cases and positive tests, could in particular be adapted in the face of the Omicron variant.

On Thursday, the threshold of 90,000 daily cases was crossed, with 91,608 confirmed cases. The previous record, 86,852 cases, went back to early November 2020, at the peak of the second wave. Before Christmas, the French tested themselves en masse. Last week over 6.2 million tests were performed.
