Covid-19: Emmanuel Macron will hold a health defense council this Monday

Emmanuel Macron will hold, Monday, December 27, a health defense council devoted to Covid-19, just before the Council of Ministers which must adopt the bill transforming the health pass into a vaccine pass, the Elysee announced on Friday to AFP . The President of the Republic must participate by videoconference in the health defense council which is scheduled for 4 p.m., one hour before the Council of Ministers, said the Elysee.

Government spokesman Gabriel Attal said Wednesday that a “reassessment of the health situation” was scheduled for that date, while the arrival of the Omicron variant is causing contamination figures to panic across Europe. The spokesperson also reiterated the government’s call for “caution” launched to the French during family reunions at the end of the year. “There will be no truce for confectioners in our fight against the epidemic,” he promised.

Soon more than 100,000 contaminations per day?

The Minister of Solidarity and Health Olivier VĂ©ran had already warned, this Wednesday, on BFMTV-RMC that the number of contaminations should exceed 100,000 per day in France by the end of December because of the very strong contagiousness of Omicron.

As a reminder, Prime Minister Jean Castex had already announced, in December, a series of new measures to deal with the 5th wave of Covid-19 which affects France, in particular a bill submitted to parliament in early January to transform the health pass as a vaccination pass.
