As the fifth wave hits Germany with full force, the Minister of Health across the Rhine, Jens Spahn, used a shock formula to describe the extent of this new epidemic phase. For her part, Angela Merkel pointed to a “highly dramatic situation” as a warning.

“Vaccinated, cured or dead” at the end of winter: Germany expressed its deep concern on Monday at the explosion of Covid-19 contamination. In a shocking statement, German Health Minister Jens Spahn warned that “almost everyone will be vaccinated, cured or dead” by “presumably the end of winter” due to the spread of the Delta variant” very, very contagious” which has been wreaking havoc for several weeks.

He also called on Germans to “urgently” get vaccinated, especially in the southern and eastern regions, this new wave being attributed in particular, according to experts, to one of the highest vaccination rates (68%) weak in Western Europe.

A “highly dramatic situation”

While the number of new daily contaminations reached a record of more than 65,000 last week, Chancellor Angela Merkel, on departure, also issued a warning against a “highly dramatic situation”. The current restrictions are “no longer sufficient”, she warned, just four days after deciding with her probable successor Olaf Scholz on severe coercive measures against the unvaccinated. But this new wave was modeled on July 8 by specialists, so it was the Chancellor’s party that refused to take a tougher stance in October.

Projections at 100,000 dead this winter

Anyway, the situation is now such in places, that Bavaria has decided to evacuate its patients, including abroad, especially to Italy. The Germans are preparing for the worst in the face of projections that give chills. There could indeed be 100,000 dead this winter on German territory.
