This figure beats the record reached the day before, where 271,686 cases of Covid-19 had been recorded. The previous record went back to the end of December, with just over 230,000 new cases in one day.

Nearly 20,700 hospitalized patients

As a result of this outbreak, hospital pressure is not weakening: in total, 20,688 patients were hospitalized on Wednesday, against 20,186 on Tuesday, or 502 new admissions in 24 hours, according to figures from Public Health France. The trend is also confirmed in critical care services, which welcome the most serious forms of the disease. In total, these services were treating 3695 patients on Wednesday with new 30 admissions in 24 hours.

By way of comparison, if the number of patients treated in critical care remains far from the peak of the first wave (more than 7,000, in 2020) or that of the third (6,001, in 2021), it risks becoming familiar in the short term. that of the second wave (4903, in 2020).

In 24 hours, hospitals recorded 246 deaths, up from 297 on Tuesday.
