Eris, four letters which designate the new variant of Covid-19. This was added on July 15 to the list of variants to be monitored by the World Health Organization. According to an infectiologist, this virus, certainly more contagious, is not very dangerous for vaccinated people.
Since July 15, the Covid-19 has had a new variant: Eris. Also nicknamed “EG5”, this one is monitored by the World Health Organization and is now the most widespread in France. Fortunately, this virus would not present, for the moment, any real risk for vaccinated people according to Benjamin Rossi, infectiologist at the Robert-Ballanger hospital in Villepinte in Seine-Saint-Denis.
At the microphone of Europe 1, the latter explains that “this virus is not more dangerous than the usual virus. It is not associated with a greater health risk, so we have nothing to fear”, reassures- he.
A variant “more contagious” than the previous one
The French infectiologist, however, indicates that this Eris variant “is more contagious, and it escapes the immune system better. This may explain the fact that it is associated with a wave of resurgence of Covid that we are currently seeing in the countries of Europe”.
Benjamin Rossi hammers it: Eris “has nothing to do with the tidal wave that we had at the start”. He also thinks he will never see waves as strong as the first again “since now we are already immune to Covid-19”.
