Covid-19: the unvaccinated represent 56% of critical care admissions and 42% of deaths

Figures that support the importance of vaccination in the French strategy. According to data published Friday evening by the Directorate of Research, Studies, Evaluation and Statistics (Drees), those not vaccinated against Covid-19 are well over-represented among the contaminations.

According to the Drees, only 8% of French people over 20 are not vaccinated against the virus. Yet they account for 21% of positive PCR tests in symptomatic people.

An over-representation that is even more noticeable in the hospital. Still according to the DREES, the 8% of unvaccinated represent 45% of admissions to conventional hospitalization, 56% of admissions to critical care, and 42% of deaths.

“If the numbers of tests and hospitalizations for a comparable population size continue to increase regardless of vaccination status, the frequencies of positive tests, hospital admissions and death are still much higher for unvaccinated people than for people vaccinated without a booster and even more than for those with a booster “, writes the statistical service.

Because the vaccine booster, already administered to more than 27.6 million French people, according to data from the Ministry of Health, increases the effectiveness of protection. Drees estimates that between November 29 and December 26, for every 100,000 unvaccinated people, 4,200 tested positive (by PCR).

An indicator that goes down to 1900 for those vaccinated without a booster, and 500 for people with a booster. “In addition, people who received a booster injection are much less frequently tested positive, hospitalized or died than those who did not.”, assures the Drees.
