Faced with “an escalation of contaminations” linked to the Omicron variant, “I made a number of proposals (…) such as making the tests free until January 10 to allow all those who are reluctant to the vaccine to get tested for the holidays, “said Valérie Pécresse during a trip to the vaccination center of Saint-Ouen, in Seine-Saint-Denis.

“You must not only be vaccinated but also be tested because the vaccine does not prevent the spread of the virus,” said Ms. Pécresse, adding to favor this strategy combining both “vaccines and tests”.
The president of the Île-de-France region also spoke out against the introduction of the vaccine pass in public transport. “It would be extraordinarily difficult to put in place”, she said about this “restriction of freedom”, recalling “the thousands of police officers” mobilized and “the hundreds of meters of tail” caused by “the certificate employer “set up for essential workers during the first confinement, in March 2020.
Extend school holidays by one week
She specified that she would approve the vaccine pass only “if the deprivation of liberty was proportionate to the protection of health” and if it was reserved “for places of leisure” such as cinemas or restaurants and not “for get to work “.
For the first week of January, the LR presidential candidate recalled her proposal to extend the school holidays by one week, while the end-of-year family reunions “are bound to spread the epidemic”. “I believe it is reasonable to consider teleworking as much as possible that companies can do,” she added. She calls on the government to examine these measures, because it is necessary “to do everything to slow down the pandemic with means which are the least depriving of liberty and which have the least impact on our economy”.
