A week after the shocking declaration of President Emmanuel Macron, desperate to “piss off” the French who choose not to be vaccinated against Covid-19, government spokesman Gabriel Attal defended the policy of ‘executive on the show Europe Morning Tuesday. “Our line works,” he insisted at Sonia Mabrouk’s microphone, stressing that “more than 200,000 adults were given their first injection last week”.
No criminal sanctions against unvaccinated
The government spokesperson reacted to a column, published in early 2022, which proposed criminal sanctions against unvaccinated people who would infect others. If he defended the action of the executive, Gabriel Attal questioned the merits of this forum. “It’s already difficult to know exactly where you have been infected. Knowing with precision who infected you, a lot of courage,” he quipped, “we know very well that it is very difficult, if not impossible. This aims to create debate, “he added.
The government’s strategy is “to strongly encourage vaccination”, by “putting pressure” on those who refuse any anti-Covid injection. The vote on the bill on the vaccine pass goes in this direction. Because if the entire French population were vaccinated, “we would have significantly fewer people hospitalized today. We would have less pressure on the hospital service”, argued Gabriel Attal on Europe 1.
Operations postponed because of unvaccinated people
Continuing his reflection, the government spokesman regretted, “as is the case today”, that “people with cancer, who have been vaccinated, are waiting for a major operation and are told that their operation is postponed for a month or two because it is necessary to make room in the hospitals to accommodate mainly unvaccinated people, who suffer from a severe form of Covid “.
Gabriel Attal assured that a vaccination of 100% of the population “would change the situation, that is why we continue to move forward”, emphasizing the already “very high” vaccination coverage in France.
Continue to support the public hospital
If the pressure intensifies on the unvaccinated people, in France as elsewhere, the spokesperson of the government explained that the public hospital continued to be supported. “We made an unprecedented, historic plan of 20 billion euros with the Ségur of health”, not however sweeping away that it is still necessary “to increase our resuscitation beds”. On the other hand, Gabriel Attal indicated that the executive did not close beds in the hospital, but reopened them.
The health sector has other objectives than increasing the number of beds, the government spokesperson said. The executive wants to “make jobs in the hospital more attractive in order to recruit more (…). The numerus clausus has been abolished, which means that we train each year 2,000 more doctors than we trained at the beginning. of this five-year term (…) Obviously there are still difficulties, but our challenge is to ensure that there are fewer people hospitalized, and for that, there is a tool, it is vaccination, ”he concluded.
