The Ministry of Health warned on Tuesday of “retreating” vaccination rates against Covid-19 among people with psychiatric pathologies or addiction. “We have a message to convey to these populations, to their relatives and to the health professionals who follow them so that there is a real mobilization”, said the ministry during a press point. In support, the ministry cited vaccination coverage rates in these populations. People “suffering from dementia” are 86% to have received a first dose, 81.3% a booster.
Uneven numbers
For people “dependent on opioids”, the figures are 67.4% and 30.4% respectively. For those “with mental retardation”, they are 88% and 64%. People “having disorders related to the use of alcohol” are for their part 83.3% to have received a primary vaccination, 57.2% a booster. Finally, the figures rise to 82.2% and 47.5% among people “with psychiatric disorders that began in childhood”.
Action plan “to boost” their vaccination
Vaccination for these people therefore appears “withdrawn from the general population” because these rates are on the whole lower than those of vaccination in all adults, underlined the ministry. “We are going to implement an action plan to boost things a little” for this population with psychiatric disorders or addictions, promised the ministry without going into the details of this plan.
The ministry would also like to see vaccination take off among children: only 4% of 5-11 year olds are currently vaccinated, 2% having received two doses.
