Crashed with a moped – police car rolled over 15-year-olds – investigation

How could that happen? This question has to be clarified after the death of a 15-year-old in Salzburg. The Lungau man drove away from the police in Tamsweg on Thursday evening with his moped: without lights in the dark. The patrol followed him. The 15-year-old fell on a dirt road and was fatally rolled over by a police station wagon.

“Coincidentally,” explains police spokesman Hans Wolfgruber, a police patrol noticed the local moped driver (15) on a local road near Tamsweg: “At far excessive speed and without driving lights,” they say. The patrol has taken up the chase, also called for support by radio. Meanwhile, the 15-year-old driver drove on towards Göriach, where, according to the police, he turned onto a stony dirt road, followed by a police car with three officers: “The young person fell in front of his colleagues. Despite the emergency braking, it was run over. ”Immediate rescue measures did not help – the emergency doctor could only determine the death of the 15-year-old. Forensic doctors confirmed the cause of death: the police car rolled over them, but further questions arise: Did the police car get too close to the driver of the moped? And why did two police cars have to chase a 15-year-old driver? The latter is “neither denied nor confirmed” by the police. Investigations into negligent homicide against police officersThe driver of the police car is being investigated for negligent homicide. The public prosecutor’s office commissioned the accident expert Gerhard Kronreif with an expert opinion. After the criminal proceedings have been concluded, the case will also be examined from a disciplinary point of view, it is said when asked. Meanwhile, St. Andrä wears black: The 15-year-old, who comes from the Haslach district, had been a member of the youth fire brigade for years. Commander Michael Pichler is stunned: “We were on duty ourselves to illuminate the sports field for the rescue helicopter.” They will now accompany the comrades and offer talks, said Pichler.
