Madly, the drama of Audrey Estrougo comes out this Wednesday in our dark rooms. This largely autobiographical film is led by Virginie Van Robby, Lucie Debay and Anne Coesens.
Barely a few months after Suprêmes, her film on the beginnings of the NTM group, director Audrey Estrougo returns with A la folie, a touching drama carried by Virginie Van Robby, Lucie Debay, Anne Coesens, François Creton, Benjamin Siksou and Théo Christine that the filmmaker therefore finds after Suprêmes.
In the film, Emmanuelle comes to spend a few days in her childhood home on the occasion of her mother’s birthday. She finds there time past and memories that reign in the place, but also her older sister whose psychological instability has too often affected family relations. No one suspects that this family celebration will quickly take an unexpected turn…
Written and shot in a month, the feature film has autobiographical resonances since it is inspired by the family history of Audrey Estrougo, even if it is a sick little brother (and not a sister as in the film) who ‘she has.
The director explains in the film’s press kit: “I tried to take a step back, thinking that if I focused on the trajectory of two sisters, it would be easier to talk about them – with more modesty and respect for my brother.
Next, I wanted to keep the idea of telling a story and introducing a part of fiction: with the artifices of narration, I wanted to move away from the autobiographical dimension stricto sensu.“
Audrey Estrougo wondered a lot about how to talk about this disease to an audience who knows nothing about it without falling into parody or pathos. She explains : “I wondered how to make this disease plausible for a spectator who does not have the psychological and behavioral keys. I wanted to enter this daily life with this data.
We are also spectators of the disease through the character of Emmanuelle: Nathalie is a free electron that we do not know how to apprehend. It was wanted. Although I know my brother by heart, I never know how he will react: at some point he is fine, and in a quarter of a second, like a clap of thunder in a blue sky, he can twist and give see its dark side.
A la folie is out this Wednesday in our theaters.
