Criminal Minds: the confirmed revival, who will be back?

Criminal Minds fans can rejoice: the revival, in development for over a year, has finally been confirmed on Paramount+. Which profilers will be back?

Announced more than a year ago, the revival of Criminal Minds will finally see the light of day on Paramount+! The platform had signed an agreement with ABC Signature and CBS Studios last February for a brand new 10-episode season of the detective series, but the official green light had still not been announced.

The development of this new burst of episodes took time but this new version of Criminal Minds is now well and truly confirmed according to information from Deadline. And even better with some of the original cast!

The majority of the returning cast

Fans will thus be able to find the characters of David Rossi (Joe Mantegna), Emily Prentiss (Paget Brewster), Jennifer “JJ” Jareau (AJ Cook), Luke Alvez (Adam Rodriguez), Dr Tara Lewis (Aisha Tyler), who were the main faces from recent seasons of Criminal Minds. The public will also have the pleasure of seeing Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness), who had nevertheless left the FBI at the end of the last season.

The profilers will therefore be back for this revival headed by long-time showrunner and producer Erica Messer. This new season will be very different from the original series. The procedural side with an investigation closed in each episode has been abandoned and the team from the FBI’s Department of Behavioral Sciences will focus on one and the same investigation during this season.

The team will indeed come up against their greatest threat yet, a criminal who is using the pandemic to shape a network of serial killers. As the world slowly recovers from the health crisis, profilers will hunt down this organization of murderers, one murder at a time.

There has been no shortage of reboot and revival projects in recent years, but the case of Criminal Minds is surprising since the series ended only two years ago at the end of its fifteenth season. Even if most of the actors have signed up for this revival, which will begin filming in August in Los Angeles, two headliners are missing: Matthew Gray Gubler (Dr Spencer Reid) and Daniel Henney (Matthew Simmons).
