India Arie follows Neil Young’s lead. The singer has her music removed from Spotify.

Like Neil Young (76) and Joni Mitchell (78), the US singer India Arie (46) is now boycotting the streaming service Spotify. She announced this on Instagram. She decided to take her music and podcast off the platform.

India Arie has to go through this door

“Neil Young has opened a door that I HAVE to step through,” the singer continues. Although she believes in freedom of speech, she finds the controversial MMA commentator and podcaster Joe Rogan (54) “problematic”. She is not talking about his “Covid interviews”: “For me it’s also about his choice of words in relation to race. What I’m talking about is RESPECT – who gets it and who doesn’t.”

India Arie asks: “Pay musicians a fraction of a penny? And him $100 million?” This shows what kind of company Spotify is. Rogan’s podcast has been available exclusively from the streaming service since 2020. The “Wall Street Journal” reported in May of the same year from a corresponding deal between the podcaster and Spotify.

Neil Young had asked Spotify to remove the podcast from the platform. After this did not happen, the musician has been boycotting the streaming service ever since. Spotify be to a place ‘become potentially deadly disinformation about Covid’. His colleague Joni Mitchell then also decided to have her music removed. “Irresponsible people spread lies that cost people their lives”, she shared on her website and explainedthat she shares Young’s opinion.
