Highly anticipated by fans, has the animated adaptation of the manga “Hell’s Paradise” available on Crunchyroll kept all its promises?
What is it about ?
Gabimaru, a famous and powerful shinobi has been captured and languishing in prison. Claiming to have no more reason to live, he desperately waits for an executioner to finish him off, his superhuman training allowing him to withstand the worst of punishments.
It is then that he receives a visit from an executor like no other: a powerful swordsman and head slicer. After a bitter fight from which he barely survived, she pushes him to his limits.
In exchange for saving life, she offers him a deal: he will have to go to a mysterious island in order to recover an elixir of immortality. Only problem: the only surviving humans from this island came back in the form of… flowers.

We are dealing with an effective adaptation for a particularly dark and mature manga. The first two episodes, although very introductory, reveal a range of very intriguing anti-heroes, all set off on a race for eternal life on an island of a thousand dangers.
MAPPA’s simple and smooth style proves to be perfect to shed all light on this horrific fable which does not skimp on blood and gory scenes. The staging and the Japanese dubbing actors add to the undeniable qualities of this beginning of the series and promise great things for the future.

- A welcome absence of censorship on the horror scenes that are an integral part of the story.

Hell’s Paradise is the adaptation of a rather short manga (only 13 volumes, available from the publisher Crunchyroll). Darker than the usual shônen, this series made an impression for the quality of its fights, but also for the richness of the personality of its heroes.
The publication of the manga ended in January 2021, thus allowing the anime series to see the light of day. The first two episodes broadcast by Crunchyroll give us a glimpse of a faithful and uncompromising adaptation, and for my part the hope that the series can sublimate the quality of the drawings of the original work.

- The series takes its time to introduce its characters, without the rhythm being impacted.
