The BTC.com cryptocurrency miner pool has fallen victim to a rather expensive hack.

And the company is not the only victim since a certain number of its customers are also part of the list of people robbed.

$3 million worth of bitcoins stolen

If there is something constant (unlike prices!) in the world of cryptocurrency, it is hacks! Even if the news has been busy lately with the somewhat shady business of Samuel Bankman-Fried, there are always pirates on the lookout.

And that’s what BTC.com, one of the largest crypto mining pools in the world, learned the hard way. He was indeed the victim on December 3 of a hack that led to the theft of nearly $3 million in crypto-assets. Of that sum, $2.3 million worth of crypto belonged to the company, while the remaining $700,000 was owned by customers.

Police authorities in Shenzhen, China, on the border with Hong Kong, were notified of the attack.

A small part of the sum recovered

On December 23, 2022, authorities had launched an investigation, started collecting evidence, and requested assistance and coordination from relevant agencies. ”, explained BTC.com

For its part, the mining company tried to recover its due. She announces to date that she has taken back some of her money, but did not want to reveal the amount recovered. No information has filtered elsewhere on data potentially stolen during the attack, and for the moment, nothing suggests that the hackers have succeeded in stealing personal data.

In its statement, BTC.com claimed that, “ following the discovery of this cyberattack, the company implemented techniques to better block and intercept hackers “. The platform is working properly so far.
