Crypto entrepreneurs paid a statue $600,000 to get ignored by Elon Musk

Entrepreneurs wanted to challenge their star, Elon Musk, in an original way to say the least. To promote their cryptocurrency, they made a huge statue of Elon Musk, and had it delivered in front of Tesla’s offices.

What is the best way to contact Elon Musk? For many, the obvious solution seems to be Twitter. The new boss of the social network spends a lot of time doing surveys and responding to user requests – he even lowered the price of the subscription from 20 dollars per month to 8, after an exchange with Stephen King.

But, a few crypto entrepreneurs chose another route to catch Elon Musk’s attention. According to the Wall Street Journal, on the night of November 26, 2022, the group behind the “Elon GOAT” cryptocurrency delivered a funny package to Tesla headquarters. A statue of several tons, representing Elon Musk on a body of a goat, wearing a Dogecoin necklace and installed on a rocket. Yes.

A sculpture of Elon Musk and a monumental wind

The statue is out of the ordinary in many ways. 6 tons heavy, it cost 600,000 dollars. The Dogecoin necklace is gold. The statue can stand up to pretend it is about to take off. It is even connected to gas cylinders, which allows flames to come out of the rocket.

The idea behind this eccentric (and unattractive) achievement: to advertise the Elon GOAT cryptocurrency project. For the moment, it seems to work: the statue is at the center of many discussions and twitter jokes, not to mention the people who came to admire the sculpture in front of the Tesla premises. Several media also filmed the delivery, in addition to the Wall Street Journal report.

There is, however, a downside: Elon Musk has still not officially accepted the statue, nor tweeted about it. The group of about twenty people who came to witness the delivery of the statue stayed until late at night in front of Tesla’s premises, without success. The founders of Elon GOAT do not intend to stop there: they announced to the Wall Street Journal that they had already thought of an event around Christmas.

While waiting for a tweet from the entrepreneur, the Elon GOAT cryptocurrency remains little known. Its site offers little information on its usefulness: apart from the statue, it seems that a “pro” platform project is underway, such as an NFT collection. Although the project boasts of being ” more than a meme “, nothing really comes to guarantee its seriousness.

A statue inspired by the joke on “GOAT”

Another question deserves an answer: why such a design? In English, an expression has been used for some time by crypto fans to refer to a person they admire: “ GOAT “, the acronym of “ greatest of all time “, the ” best of all time “. Not much to do with the goat, which is also written “ goat in English, but the similarity between the two words is often used as a joke. Making Elon Musk’s head appear on a goat’s body is the best example of this, as is the name of the cryptocurrency.

The Dogecoin necklace is a direct allusion to Elon Musk’s passion for this cryptocurrency. The Dogecoin is basically a joke, created in reference to the Doge meme, and its creators have repeatedly indicated that it has absolutely no use. Nevertheless, thanks to the many publicity stunts that Elon has done to Dogecoin, it has become one of the most valued crypto projects.

As for the rocket on which the sculpture is perched, it refers to another expression frequently used in the crypto community: “ to the moon », « to the moon “. The phrase, which acts as a mantra, is used to designate the success of a cryptocurrency, the price of which is hoped to take off “ to the moon “.
