Culture news After One Piece and City Hunter, Netflix is adapting another cult anime into a live action film: it is arriving in 2024
The year 2024 is the year of live action adaptations of cult anime. Indeed, after One Piece and City Hunter it’s Golden Kamui’s turn. The story of the Ainu’s quest for gold will be available on May 19 on Netflix Asia.
Anime fans were treated to the live action version of One Piecethey will also have the right to that of Golden Kamui ! Indeed, the trailer for the first live action season was revealed by Netflix this Wednesday April 24. Golden Kamui is a manga created by Satoru Noda composed of 31 volumes and available in France since 2016 thanks to the publisher Ki-oon. The manga therefore has an animated version, which has helped to increase its notoriety. The anime version counts 49 episodes spread over 4 seasons. The live action version should therefore follow the adventures of Saichi Sugimoto for several seasons, even if no official announcement has been made to this effect. Season 1 is scheduled for May 19, 2024.

After One Piece, it’s the turn of the cult Golden Kamui to have his live action
This manga begins in the Hokkaido region located in the north of Japan. Fans follow the story of Saichi Sugimoto, a hero of the Russo-Japanese War from 1904-1905. Thanks to his fighting skills and his exploits on the battlefield, he was nicknamed “Sugimoto the immortal”. However, even after all the services rendered to his country, he found himself penniless after the war and therefore in need. He then learns of the existence of a treasure of 75 kilos of gold accumulated by the Ainu. So he sets out in search of gold accompanied by Asirpa, whose father died to save the gold. The problem is that this treasure was hidden by the intriguing “Faceless”. Man imprisoned in Hokkaido prison tattooed 24 of his fellow prisoners who, once united, form the only code which reveals the location of the gold. “Faceless” then helped them escape. The journey of the two protagonists promises to be harsh and dangerous because they are not the only ones to desire this treasure.
Anime adaptation: The new trend at Netflix
Since 2023, Netflix has announced several anime adaptations from cult mangas. Indeed, in 2023, fans were able to discover the live action adaptation of the famous manga One Piece. Season 1, composed of 8 episodes, was released during the summer of 2023 and it is quite successful. The involvement of the creator of One Piece, Eiichiro Oda, in the creation of the series allowed fans of the anime not to be too disoriented. Most recently Netflix released the live action adaptation from Avatar: The Last Airbender. The series was highly appreciated by fans, and as for One PieceTHE next seasons are already being prepared. The adaptation of Golden Kamui confirms the trend emerging on Netflix. We must therefore expect to see more and more live action anime on the platform…
The success of Golden Kamui is not yet assured, but the awards it won in its anime version are good assets for the series to succeed. Indeed, the adventure manga won the Manga Grand Prix in 2016 then the Grand Prize of the 22nd Osamu Tezuka Cultural Prize in 2018.
