A successful bet for Denis Villeneuve and his adaptation of Dune. After a very well-received first film, the sequel which has just been released in cinemas is just as successful and could even do better in the days to come. If the critical success is largely thereDune 2 also works very well with the public. In France, the film currently has nearly 2.4 million admissions. Figures which will continue to climb before very surely exceeding the scores of the first part, which ended its run at 3.1 million entries when it was released in 2021.

A final journey to Arrakis
Dune 2 is doing very well for the moment. Internationally, the film has already grossed nearly $388 million. Good results which are far from definitive as the film is about to begin its fourth week of release. Dune 2 is therefore the first real major cinematic success of 2024, a success which should then allow Denis Villeneuve to develop a third and final feature film dedicated to Paul Atréides. As we recall, Dune 1 and 2 cover the events that occurred during Frank Herbert’s first book. A final part supposedly titled “Messiah”, like the second Dune book, should see the light of day and this time resume the events of this sort of epilogue. However, as Denis Villeneuve has clarified on several occasions, such a project is still in its infancy. The filmmaker continued writing the first two films, but has not yet started the script for Messiah and would like to devote himself to another project in the meantime. In short, a breath of fresh air before returning one last time to Arrakis.
