At the gates of the year 2024, season 2 of the anime Jujutsu Kaisen has lowered the curtain. However, just before enjoying the final episode, fans had the joy of learning that the third season was already in the pipeline at the prolific and busy MAPPA studio. Making fans both happy and worried (due to the conditions), the studio delivered a second season full of twists and turns and action, which bodes well for the future: season 3 and The Murderous Hunt arc. We tell you more!

What will be on the program for season 3 of Jujutsu Kaisen?

After months and months of weekly appointments, the second season of the manga adaptation Jujutsu Kaisen bowed out. Once again, the animators and artists from the MAPPA studio have given us a grand finale. From what we know, production of this third round of episodes has already begun, but it could be that the wait until the final discovery is very long. On the one hand, the gap between season 1 and season 2 somewhat exceeded two years, which would bring us to the end of 2025. On the other hand, we know that the Japanese animation studio is increasing its projects, which which could also affect the development of season 3. Regardless, and by then, the pre-publication of the manga in Weekly Shōnen Jump will be completed. As suggested by the author, the conclusion of Jujutsu Kaisen could be delivered during the next twelve months.

On the anime side, the MAPPA teams still have room to develop a fourth season! In the meantime, the third season will tackle one of the other major arcs of the manga, just as strong and rich in fights as The Shibuya Drama was. In this case, and as we suspected, the third season of the anime Jujutsu Kaisen will tackle The Murderous Hunt. But she will have other adventures to tell us before that, a bit like the studio did during the first episodes of season 2 with the events of Hidden Treasure / Premature Death. So, before starting the Murderous Hunt arc, we would be entitled to a few episodes, as a preamble, on the Execution of Yuji and Preparations for the Hunt arc.. Technically, if the MAPPA studio sticks to that, this third season should adapt chapters 138 to 212, just to end on a huge cliffhanger. Knowing that season 2 spanned 72 chapters (from 65 to 137), we would be on target!

The return of an important character from the film Jujutsu Kaisen 0

One of the important points of the next season of the anime Jujutsu Kaisen, this is the reappearance of the character of Yuta Okkotsu. We use the term “reappearance” since this exorcist is the main character of the film Jujutsu Kaisen 0. Moreover, we find him at the very end of season 2, making remarks which serve as the final twists and turns in these five months of broadcast. As seen in the film which serves as a prequel to Akutami Gege’s manga, Yuta Okkotsu is a character of the utmost importancenotably because he can use a very particular scourge during fights, has the ability to copy the techniques of other exorcists and… has common ancestors with Gojo Satoru! That alone makes it one of the major assets of season 3especially since he will be heavily involved from the arc that is The Murderous Hunt.

However, he will not be the only star of this important arc of the manga. If we were able to discover new ones in the second season and the Shibuya Drama arc, there are new figures – and others, older ones – who will also have the chance to shine and gain importance. To leave you with the pleasure of discovery, or of reading, we will keep quiet their names but you have to expect big surprises and big increases in power! That being said, the Murderous Hunt arc is also a great pretext to address the true intentions of a character that we very quickly saw in Akutami Gege’s mangaalmost during the first chapters: namely, Geto Suguru!

The true intentions behind the character of Geto Suguru

Warning, the following part contains spoilers. It was one of the big surprises of this second season: the return of Geto Suguru, and we’re not talking about the flashbacks from the first episodes! Already crossed in the first season, the events of the film Jujutsu Kaisen 0, released later, were disconcerting since we discovered the tragic fate of Suguru, killed by Gojo Satoru, his lifelong friend. This reappearance in Shibuya, in season 2 and the arc that it adapts, also took Gojo Satoru by surprise, just moments before he was sealed. And for good reason, it is only Geto’s body that he has in front of him: his mind, his consciousness are no longer the same since his envelope is controlled by… Kenjaku or, to use one of his many aliases, Noritoshi Kamo. Thanks to his spell, allowing him to transplant his brain into other bodies (hence the presence of a line on the forehead of his “victims”), Kenjaku was able to cross the ages, he who mainly lived during the Meiji era, more than a thousand years ago.

Towards the end of The Shibuya Drama arc, everything goes exactly as he hoped and falls into place for him to take the next step in his plan: the Murderous Hunt. Behind this already gloomy name in itself hides an even more sinister reality since it is nothing more and nothing less than a kind of huge tournament taking place in different places in the country. Within the ten arenas delimited by barriers deployed by Kenjaku, the holders (newly revealed non-exorcists) and users (the exorcists) of occult energy are forced to kill each other in order to optimize the potential of occult energy and to bring all of humanity to evolve. However, to protect this morbid ritual, Kenjaku has imposed restrictions on himself, to the point that he is not the master of the game of Hunting: it is the Hunt itself which governs itself through a regulation comprising multiple rules, which can be added or deleted using a system of points which are obtained through very specific actions. In short, it is one of the most complex and complex parts of the manga and we can’t wait to discover the adaptation by MAPPA.

The Murderous Hunt arc, even bloodier and more impactful than The Shibuya Drama

Just by sketching the contours of the Murderous Hunt, we easily understand that it will again be a matter of of a very rhythmic arc rich in combat, and not just an avalanche of complex details about the plot, although you should expect a few passages filled with explanations and new powers and territories imagined by Akutami Gege. Anyway, if you enjoyed the fights in The Shibuya Drama arc, The Murderous Hunt contains some of the most spectacular fights in Jujutsu Kaisen. Among the lot, we can cite the dazzling evolution and the Dantesque fights of Maki Zenin in the Preparations arc, the eventful meeting with Kinji Hakari – new and precious ally of Yuji and Megumi introduced in this arc -, or even the atypical clash between Itadori Yuji and Hiromi Higuruma! Those who diligently follow the manga and the pre-publication chapters know very well what we are referring to and it is only the visible part of the iceberg!

Between the exorcists, the scourges, the relics and the non-exorcists turned exorcists who hang out in the ten arenas spread throughout Japan, this arc offers a slew of fights which follow one after the other at a rather sustained pace, multiplying the back and forth between the protagonists who fight against Kenjaku’s Machiavellian plan, in addition to the threat of Sukuna which continues to hover above them. In terms of time, it’s almost a month of fights which will be at the heart of season 3 of Jujutsu Kaisen. Beyond the character of Yuji, Megumi, Maki, Yuta and Kinji will be extensively tested during the epic confrontations of the Murderous Hunt, while a few surprise fights, involving characters slightly behind since the beginning of the manga , will complete the deluge of action that is being prepared. With this third season, the adaptation of Jujutsu Kaisen will increase in intensity, which should highly satisfy fans of the second season, and will prepare us for another major, dare we say traumatic, step with the Battle of Shinjuku arc, ideal material for a fourth season. However, what we hope above all is that the working conditions within the MAPPA studio will improve and that the artists and animators will have the time and means to take care of this arc from A to Z.
