A few days ago, Netflix added a legal and sulphurous thriller to its catalog of programs, and many viewers were tempted after seeing the trailer. Except that they quickly regretted their choice as evidenced by the catastrophic opinions published on social networks and on evaluation sites: it is both one of the worst films recently released on Netflix… and number 1 with millions of views!

New releases from the Netflix catalog hit the shelves one after the other

Currently on Netflix, we can no longer count the boxes. There is, for example, the release of the live-action series Avatar: The Last Airbender which sweeps away the competition by ranking first in the top 10, doing even better than the live-action adaptation of One Piece in its time. Whatever the addition to the catalog, the program in question stands out. Recently, the two parts of one of the worst French comedy sagas have entered the ranking of the most viewed films on the platform, proof that bad press does not always alter popularity.

We are once again confronted with this observation with the release of the feature film Mea Culpa by Tyler Perry. This film, available since February 23, retraces one of the cases of lawyer Mea Harper (played by Kelly Rowland). As she organizes the defense of her client, artist Zyair Malloy (played by Trevante Rhodes), accused of killing his girlfriend, Mea witnesses many twists and turns that make the case increasingly complex. And, to make matters worse, the resolution will be much more perilous as the two characters become dangerously closer. On paper, the synopsis might seem intriguing, although hardly revolutionary, but viewers quickly realized that the end result was even worse than they could have imagined.

One of the worst films they’ve seen: Netflix viewers certainly won’t do their Mea Culpa

Very quickly, the first opinions on this feature film began to flood social networks, while criticism from the press and the public accumulated in parallel on multiple sites such as the famous Rotten Tomatoes. Currently, the recommendation scores are really not that impressive: 21% from the press, with 14 reviews, and 37% from the public, with more than 250 reviews.. In short, the critical reception was frosty but the most acerbic comments were undeniably posted on social networks, notably on X (formerly Twitter).

Tyler Perry’s Worst Movie Yet “, ” one of the worst films I have had the pleasure of seeing “, ” boring to death “, ” annoying from the first to the last second “, ” very, very bad cinema, the bottom of the basket » and many other remarks of this ilk. This is what we can currently read on… the most viewed film on the platform (i.e. 16 million streams since release) ! If it currently occupies first place in the ranking, we cannot say that Mea Culpa won the gold medal in the hearts of the spectators.
