Culture news The Son Goku vs Broly duel takes on a new dimension: the best fight is not in Dragon Ball
Very recently, a fan film illustrating a fight between Son Goku and Broly got people talking: it could well be the best representation of the duel between these two characters.
Once Broly, always Broly
Dragon Ball is an absolute institution in the world of pop culture, and perhaps the most influential modern Japanese work in the manga and anime sectors: we can never thank Akira Toriyama enough for his work during of all these years. Over several decades, we had the pleasure of seeing great figures clash, notably Goku and Broly, two warriors of extreme power. But the irony is that Broly was not created by Toriyama, but by Shigeyasu Yamauchi, author of the film Dragon Ball Z: Broly the Super Warrior released in 1993, in which he appears for the first time.
Due to his origin – that is, appearing in the films rather than the manga – Broly was not canon in the franchise’s actual history until Dragon Ball Super, giving birth of a new version of the character, connected to the sequel to Dragon Ball Z. His story has been partly preserved, but also changed somewhat to better fit the whole mythology : in short, a mythical character to whom fans wanted to pay homage.
A mini animated film that leaves you speechless
We therefore owe today’s little nugget to Eduardo Quintana and Sola Digital Arts, who created a video illustrating a battle (yet another one) between Goku and Broly. But be careful, the canon version of Broly, for once. Above all, the fan film draws its inspiration from the manga with a very appreciable “paper-style” artistic style: for once, the rendering is extremely faithful to the original material from Toriyama or even Toei Animation.
For many, this mini animated film ultimately does better than many official fights. We find all the power inherent in the two characters, but also the emotions and the past that bind them: you should know that the concoction of the video took no less than… a year. In short, look at it just above.
