An unexpected success dethrones everyone on Netflix and it is an action and comedy film inspired by the Mission Impossible saga.
On January 4, The Snow Circle was released on Netflix. A Spanish film inspired by real events which was a real hit, positioning itself at the top of the ranking of the most watched works in France. But that was before the arrival of “In Full Flight” on the 12th of the same month, the new comedy with Kevin Hart which looks back on the crash of Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571.

A surprise success
In full flight, the new film by F. Gary Gray (to whom we notably owe Italian Heist in 2003, NWA – Straight Outta Compton in 2015, and the most recent Men in Black: international in 2019) is a Mission Impossible-style action comedy that sets everything on fire on Netflix. We discover Cyrus Whitaker played by Kevin Hart and his team of Robbers from all walks of life who must seize half a billion dollars in gold aboard a plane in mid-flight. A scenario reminiscent of La Casa de papel, with the presence in this new team of one of the star actresses of the original series, Ursula Corbero, known for the role of Tokyo. To accompany the flagship comedian, we can note Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Ramona in the Loki series), Sam Worthington (Jake Sully in Avatar), Vincent d’Onofrio (The Kingpin in Daredevil and Echo), Billy Magnussen and the one who we no longer present, Jean Reno.
A high audience score, but which does not symbolize unanimity either. On the criticism side: 28% score on Rotten Tomatoes on 43 reviews, and 34% for viewers on more than 250 reviews. Some highlight a rather bland plot and a jagged pace.
Netflix productions coming in 2024
Just like In Flight, these films coming in 2024 could take the top spot. Obviously part 2 of Rebel Moon which arrives in April, motivated by the great success of the first part on Netflix despite mixed reviews. When we know the reputation of animated films on the platform at the moment, we can only wait for Orion’s Night (which arrives at the beginning of February), an adaptation of Emma Yarlett’s book The Children who was afraid of the dark. The Kitchen which comes out in a few days, directed by Get Out lead actor Daniel Kaluuya. It is a dystopia in the heart of London with the rich on one side, and on the other, the poor and young Izi who will try to make things happen. The year 2024 promises to be rich in new successes for the platform with the N in red.
