On La Palma, a curfew for around 3000 residents of the Canary Island was imposed as a result of the ongoing eruption of the volcano Cumbre Vieja. The authorities pointed to the destruction of a cement factory by the outbreak on Monday evening.

“We have decided that the residents have to stay at home until we can analyze whether the air quality allows a normal life,” said the head of the emergency commission, Miguel Ángel Morcuende.
The Cumbre Vieja erupted on September 19th and has been active ever since. So far there have been neither injuries nor deaths, but thousands of people had to be brought to safety. More than a thousand buildings were destroyed by the lava. (AFP)
