As of May 2nd, the pay-TV broadcaster Spiegel TV Wissen will be operating under a new name. As a Curiosity Channel, it’s going to new shores from now on. The renaming is part of an acquisition.

If you should have asked yourself today “Where did Spiegel TV knowledge go?” – do not worry! The station isn’t gone, it’s now called the Curiosity Channel. The renaming is one of the last pieces in a takeover puzzle between the former and still majority holding parties Spiegel TV and Autentic and the relatively new shareholder Curiosity Stream.
Curiosity Stream kicked off in 2021
Although the US documentary streaming provider “only” entered 2021 with 32 percent and the two top dogs each continue to hold 34 percent, it quickly became clear that the branding would also undergo a fresh cell treatment and sooner or later it would be converted to Curiosity. The background to this has not been openly communicated, but it is obvious to breathe new life into the outdated Spiegel TV image in this way.
Spiegel TV history remains untouched for the time being
It is a bit strange, however, that the company’s second channel will continue to run under the name Spiegel TV history for the time being. It is still unclear at this point in time how this will continue. In any case, the opportunity to rename both channels at once was missed this Monday.
