Curling World Cup in Ottawa – 5: 7 defeat: Swiss miss the final – sport

The Swiss curlers lost the semi-final against Canada 5:7 and are now fighting against Italy for bronze.

The Swiss curlers have to wait for their first participation in the final of a world championship since 2003. In the semi-finals, the team with Skip Yannick Schwaller, Benoit Schwarz, Sven Michel and Pablo Lachat lost host Canada to Skip Brad Gushue 5:7.

The decision was only made in the 10th end. The Canadians, who had the last stone and thus had the advantage, were in the house with several stones before Benoit Schwarz’s last attempt. So the Swiss had to put a stone in the middle of the house to avert the impending defeat. However, this did not succeed: the stone fell off the black board for a little too long, and the Canadian victory was sealed.

The two teams had kept each other in check for a long time. After 6 ends, in which Canada and Switzerland alternately wrote a stone each, the Canadians managed to write 2 stones in the 7th end for the first time. Gushue and Co. took a 5:3 lead at one point.

The Swiss had a reaction ready. Thanks to a successful “hit and roll” – Black played his own stone with the last attempt in such a way that it was deflected to the middle and was “shot” – Switzerland wrote a two-man house only one end later and equalized.
