Canal+ is attacking TF1 before the Nanterre commercial court for “abuse of a dominant position” and “discriminatory practices”, contesting the terms of the distribution contract under which the first broadcasts the channels of the second.

After the expiry of this contract on August 31, the Canal+ group stopped broadcasting the free channels of the TF1 group (TF1, TMC, TFX, TF1 Séries Films and LCI), for lack of being able to find a financial agreement for its renewal. . A similar conflict had opposed the two audiovisual giants in 2018, without going to court.

TF1 attacked Canal + in summary proceedings

On Wednesday, TF1 had indicated that it was attacking Canal+ in summary proceedings, an emergency procedure, before the Paris Commercial Court. TF1 is asking for its channels to be restored to the Canal+ TNT Sat satellite service, the only way for some households to receive television in areas not served by terrestrial DTT (mainly in the mountains).

“We had prepared this assignment before that of TF1 announced in the press earlier in the day”, indicated Wednesday evening to the newspaper Le Parisien / Today in France Laëtitia Ménasé, general secretary of Canal +. According to her, the summons to the merits should be effective “by the end of the week” and benefit from an accelerated procedure allowing a decision before the end of the year.
