A baby unicorn sounds so cute while eating – video

Little squirrels, big appetites: these babies are audibly happy when they eat

Baby squirrels look cute – but did you know what they sound like? In the video you can experience the noises they make when you get very close to them.

Okay, honestly, who among us could spontaneously say what a squirrel actually sounds like? We’ve probably all seen them in the wild – but the animals tend to be shy of people and scurry away so quickly that they don’t even have time to make acoustic contact. But still, it’s kind of amazing that we can’t assign a sound to squirrels, given that they’re so widespread in Germany (a problem pigeons, for example, don’t have to contend with). Sure, they won’t bark or crow loudly now – but then what? Purr? beep? Thankfully, there’s now particularly cute video evidence of what squirrel sounds like.

“Mother of the squirrels” makes a sensational recording

British wildlife photographer Dani Conor recently fell in love with squirrels: when she found a mother squirrel that had been hit by a car, she was sure she must have babies nearby who were now completely helpless. And indeed: After a short search, Dani discovered first one, then a total of four mini squirrels trying to get by without their mother. The photographer spontaneously decided to take care of the orphaned animals. From then on she spent four to six hours a day in the forest with her new protégés and made sure that they could have a safe and stable start in life even without their mother. The animals soon began to trust her, and Dani jokingly referred to herself as the “Mother of Squirrels”.

One-time shots

Of course, she always had her camera with her – and so one day she had the idea of getting very close to a baby squirrel with the microphone while it was eating for a video. The normally shy animal had no qualms about its “surrogate mother” – and so Dani was able to clearly record how the mini squirrel made little happy sounds while eating. Hear how cute that sounds for yourself in the video above!
