Cyberpunk 2077 will once again serve as a technology showcase for NVIDIA with RTX Path Tracing.
CD Projekt RED’s Action RPG will indeed be the subject of a technical demo on March 22 at GDC 2023, giving pride of place to this feature resulting from Ray Tracing Overdrive technology.
A New Path
True technical standard meter (but unfortunately not devoid of bugs), Cyberpunk 2077 definitely has NVIDIA’s favor to show off its new technologies. After ray tracing and DLSS 3, it’s time for RTX Path Tracing powered by Ray Tracing Overdrive technology.
A slightly bombastic name, behind which hides a fairly simple concept: magnify shadows and indirect lighting in dynamic environments. So think of it as ray tracing boosted with amphetamines or other doping products that we take in Night City.
RTX Path Tracing intends on paper to overcome the current limitations of direct and indirect lighting algorithms. Such things are usually handled by ambient occlusion or space reflection, which prevents developers, according to NVIDIA’s argument, from having a great time with these parameters affecting their performance.
Night City exhibits its windows
To present this new technology during GDC 2023, we will be entitled to a conference simply called ” Cyberpunk 2077 RT Overdrive: Bringing Path Tracing to Night City “. She will be led by NVIDIA Senior Development and Technology Engineer Pawel Kozlowski and CD Projekt RED Art Director Jakub Knapik.
The opportunity to see technology put to the test in the already very enticing streets of Night City. As a reminder, the RTX Path Tracing technology had already been implemented in Portal RTX and Quake RTX. However, this will be the first opportunity for NVIDIA to present it on a game that is more up to date.
See you on March 22 to be amazed in Night City (and cry because you will certainly need an absolutely overpriced PC to take full advantage of it).
