Depending on where we are in the cycle, our body needs different nutrients. Packed in chocolates, they not only taste delicious, they also lift our spirits.

Everyone knows cravings for chocolate, chips and sweets before the period. But even during the other phases of your cycle, do you sometimes notice that you have certain cravings or do you just want to snack on something small and sweet in between, which doesn’t come across as a sugar bomb, but at best supports your body during the cycle and is good for you? Then we have 3 snacks here that you can treat yourself to and that even do something good for you.

Feed away a bad mood?

Sleep, stress, exercise, alcohol – our hormone balance is influenced by many factors. An essential and mostly underestimated is our diet. Especially in the luteal phase, the phase before the period begins, many women suffer from mood swings, abdominal pain and cravings for sweets. It’s no wonder that we reach for a bar of chocolate out of sheer desperation. It’s also perfectly ok, but it’s also healthier and still delicious. Plus: In the best-case scenario, these three little snacks also relieve PMS symptoms.

1. PMS Chocolates

What you need:

  • 150 grams of walnuts
  • 125 g cashew butter
  • 125 g agave syrup
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 3 bars of dark chocolate (the higher the cocoa content, the better)

How to do it:

Mix the cashew butter, salt and agave syrup into a paste. Line a plate or small board with parchment paper (careful! It must fit in the freezer) and spread small blobs of the paste with a teaspoon. Put a nut on each blob and place in the freezer for about an hour. Shortly before the time is up, melt the chocolate in a water bath, dip heaps of nuts from the freezer into it and put them back in the fridge until they have hardened completely.

Why are they doing well?

Cashew nuts and dark chocolate with a high cocoa content contain L-tryptophan. This is an amino acid that our body needs in order to be able to produce the neurotransmitter serotonin itself, which in turn stimulates a good mood and improves mood. In the luteal phase in particular, when our serotonin level levels off, we can really use it.

2. Filled chocolate dates

You need this:

  • 15 dates
  • 7 teaspoons peanut butter
  • 15 g dark chocolate (the higher the cocoa content, the better)
  • some cinnamon

How to do it:

Simply pit the dates if necessary and fill them with half a teaspoon of the nut butter. Then melt the chocolate over the water bath and then pour some over the dates. Sprinkle a little cinnamon on top and enjoy.

Why are they doing well?

Dates are rich in fiber. They support your digestion and, unlike other sweets, allow your blood sugar level to rise more slowly. The dark chocolate has an antispasmodic effect because it contains a lot of magnesium, as does the nut butter, which also supports the formation of hormones due to the high proportion of proteins and fats. Tryptophan is also found in dates and chocolate. The soul flattering cinnamon completes the whole thing with its warmth, which is always good before and during the period.

3. Bliss Balls

What you need:

  • 100 g dates (pitted) or apricots (you can also mix)
  • 50 g white almonds
  • 25 g grated coconut
  • 1 tsp almond butter
  • 500 g dark chocolate with a high cocoa content
  • Desiccated coconut for sprinkling
  • pinch of salt

How to do it:

Chop the almonds in a blender and set aside. Chop the dates in the blender and add to the almonds. Mix the mass with nut butter, salt and coconut flakes. If the mass is too dry, add some nut butter or some coconut oil. Then form balls with wet hands and chill in the fridge for an hour. Melt the chocolate in a water bath, dip the balls in and sprinkle with grated coconut. Then put it back in the fridge until the chocolate has set.

Why are they doing well?

Dates, nuts, coconut and dark chocolate are an unbeatable combination. They contain proteins, magnesium and boost our serotonin levels. We don’t really have to say that the little balls are delicious, do we?

All three snacks also taste great without PMS.
