Cycling: Spaniard Pujalte, 18, killed in training accident


MADRID, March 1 (Reuters) – 18-year-old Spanish cyclist Juan Pujalte has died following an accident, his team Valverde said on Thursday.

According to Spanish media, the accident took place near Escombreras, in Cartagena, during the young athlete’s training. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

“Breaked by grief, we regret to confirm the death of our team member Juan Pujalte,” Valverde announced in a message broadcast on the X platform, formerly Twitter.

“Juan’s smile, his joy and his passion for life and cycling will be present in our hearts every day. Our thoughts are with your family, your friends and your team.
